Don't Panic, This Is How To Deal With High Fever In Children

Healthy
High fever in children certainly makes parents worry. Moreover, there has been recent news that many fever-reducing products for children are contaminated with hazardous materials. So, how should I overcome it?

Actually, fever in children is not always dangerous. This could be the body's immune system's natural way of fighting infections that are trying to attack the body. However, there are several ways to deal with fever in children naturally, which you can try at home.

How to Overcome High Fever in Children

Normal body temperature in children is around 36.5-37.5 degrees Celsius. When a child has a body temperature of more than 38 degrees Celsius, it can be said that the child has a fever and must be treated.

Fever occurs due to a reaction of the body's immune system which is fighting viruses, bacteria, fungi, or parasites that cause certain diseases. Fever in children can occur due to changes in weather or exposure to excessive heat.

So, here are natural solutions to deal with high fever in children:

1. Warm Water Bath

One of the easiest but effective ways to bring down a child's fever is to take a warm bath. For babies, mothers can wipe their bodies with a washcloth soaked in warm water.

A warm bath helps regulate temperature, as body temperature drops as water evaporates from the body. Cold showers should be avoided during a fever. Because cold water can trigger shivering and can increase body temperature further.

2. Feed Children Regularly

When you have a fever, your body needs more vitamins and minerals. The recommended food intake is high in calories, high in protein, low in fat and high in fluids.

Bone broth or chicken soup with vegetables can be given to children. This is because bone broth has a high cartilage content which helps in the formation of white blood cells that defend the body from infection.

Make sure your child eats foods that are easy to digest. Feed the child every two hours at first and when the child is better, reduce the frequency to every four hours.

3. Ensure Children Drink Enough

In addition to soups and solid foods, fluid intake in the form of water and juice is very important when a high fever occurs in children. Fruit juices, milk, barley water and coconut water can help increase the body's energy levels and give it the strength it needs to recover.

For newborns, feed every 10 minutes. If the baby is bottle-fed, be sure to increase the frequency of feedings to replace lost body fluids.

4. Choose Thin Clothes

During high fever in children occurs, wear light clothing to increase body heat loss. Layers of clothing can make a fever worse by trapping body heat. Use a blanket if the child is shivering.

5. Make Sure Children Get Enough Rest

Adequate rest and sleep can help recover high fever in children. During rest, the body can dedicate energy to healing rather than redistributing it to other activities.

If your child is reluctant to sleep, choose activities that limit their movement. Like coloring, solving puzzles, or playing with favorite toys. With a little movement, the body will be able to direct more energy into healing the actual disease.

6. Use Cold Compresses

Natural home remedies for fever in babies include using cold compresses. Cold compresses on the forehead and nape can efficiently reduce fever in children.

Add 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to 4 tablespoons of cold water. Apple cider vinegar is effective for removing heat from the body. Use a clean piece of cloth to soak the mixture for one minute.

Shake off excess water and place it on the child's forehead and/or nape for a few minutes. If you want to be practical, there are currently many available fever compress plasters that are sold in pharmacies.

7. Steam Inhalation

If a child's high fever is accompanied by a runny nose, the steam can help remove the mucus that causes the fever. Steam baths can be an effective fever treatment at home.

Fill hot water into a vaporizer and add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to it. Help the child inhale the vapors. Inhaling warm, moist air will help remove mucus and thereby reduce fever.

Those are some tips for dealing with high fever in children naturally. Apart from these various methods, mothers can also help their children feel more comfortable during a fever by applying balm, telon oil, and so on.
